2016 The 88th Academy Awards.

Los Angeles, California United Sates of America (CNN USA) The Oscars "Spotlight" won just two awards at Sunday night's 88th Academy Awards, but one of them was the night's top prize: best picture. 

The film, about journalists investigating a sex abuse scandal involving Catholic priests, also won original screenplay.

Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar.

10th Republican Presidential Debate.

Houston, Texas to February 27th, 2016 (CNN/ Radio Salem/ Telemundo/ The Washington Post). The 10th Republican presidential debate, Thursday's GOP fight night averaged 14.5 million viewers Nielsen ratings, 13.2 million watched on CNN and 1.3 million watched the Spanish-language broadcast on Telemundo.


Nine months into the Republican presidential race, Marco Rubio on Thursday demonstrated for the first time how to successfully attack frontrunner Donald Trump. The first step is to try. And the second step is to do so relentlessly but with a sense of humor.


WINNERS

Marco Rubio: This was not only Rubio's best debate performance, it was the best debate performance by any candidate in any debate so far in the 2016 election. Rubio, grasping the fact that if nothing changes in this race he — and everyone else — will lose to Donald Trump, hit Trump at every turn. He savaged Trump on using illegal immigrants to help build Trump Tower. He went after Trump for inheriting money. He hit Trump for his position on Israel and Palestine. And, most importantly, he rattled Trump during a back-and-forth over Obamacare. It reminded me of this moment from another great battle between two titans: What Rubio's stellar performance means is that the race between now and Tuesday — and March 15 and beyond — will be cast as a two-man showdown between Trump and Rubio. That's the only chance Rubio has of winning. What I don't know is whether the punches Rubio landed will do any lasting damage to Trump. Nothing else has — yet.


Mitt Romney: The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has been a low-profile figure in this race. Sure, Romney came under a full-frontal assault from Trump during the debate. But questions over when Trump and the other candidates will release their taxes took up a considerable amount of debate time. That demonstrates Romney is still able to drive conversation within the GOP.


LOSERS

Ted Cruz: Cruz watched — and I do mean watched — as Rubio turned the race into a two-man contest between him and Trump. Cruz was strangely absent from the main back-and-forths of the night. To the extent Cruz was able to get into a debate with Trump, he spent his time hitting the real estate mogul for making past donations to Democrats. Cast me as skeptical that that line of attack will work. Cruz also tried to make the electability case against Trump but found himself hoist on his petard by The Donald, who noted that the senator's polls aren't in a great place. Cruz looked like the third wheel in this debate — a bad place to be with March 1 just five days away.


Donald Trump: This wasn't Trump's worst debate. In fact, it might not even be in the bottom half of his performances. He generally counterpunched admirably — particularly against Cruz. But Rubio got the better of Trump on several occasions; the senator from Florida found ways to embarrass and mock Trump, which is something no one in any previous debate has been able to do. Rubio also effectively exposed the thinness of Trump's policy solutions especially on health care.


Ben Carson/John Kasich: You could be forgiven for having forgotten that either the retired neurosurgeon or the Ohio governor were part of this debate. Carson and Kasich got almost no questions, and the ones they did get they seemed unprepared to handle. Carson somehow made a fruit salad reference (see above) when asked about Supreme Court nominees. Kasich used every question to talk about how we all need to get along. Both men felt entirely ancillary to the proceedings — as though they were engaged in a different event than the one Trump, Rubio and Cruz were participating in. Which, of course, they sort of were.

Dragon Ball: 30 Años.

Ciudad de México a 26 de Febrero de 2016 (Vanguardia). Hoy dia como hoy pero el día 26 de febrero de 1986, se emitió el primer capítulo de Dragon Ball en Japón; después de año y medio de posicionarse como uno de los mangas de mayor popularidad. Si bien nadie niega la importancia del material impreso, es la versión animada la que catapultó, no sólo a la obra de Akira Toriyama, sino al género del anime a nivel mundial; debido a su temática ajena a todo lo que se conocía en otros territorios ajenos al oriental.

Como todos sabemos, la serie contaba la historia de Goku, un niño con cola que vivía en las montañas, quien se encuentra de manera intempestiva con Bulma, una joven que busca las Esferas del Dragón; objetos mágicos que al estar juntos harán surgir a un dragón que cumplirá cualquier deseo que uno pida. Su principal característica, además de la acción inherente que suponía la trama, es que combinaba la violencia con el humor y momentos subidos de tono (sólo hay que recordar el capítulo donde Bulma se baña y duerme desnuda, provocando que Yamcha le toque el pecho por equivocación, pensando que se trataba de una de las esferas).
 

Curiosamente, al tratarse de una "caricatura" ningún adulto esperaba que se mostrara ese tipo de contenido; vamos se suponía que las animaciones eran para niños. Al dar cuenta de esto, varios padres de familia occidentales que se opusieron a que sus hijos e hijas vieran la serie; sin embargo, eso no impidió que se convirtiera en un fenómeno global, permitiendo que la animación fuera perdiendo su halo infantil, y cimentando el terreno para la llegada masiva del anime.

Algo curioso es que esta primer parte de la historia tuvo dos emisiones en México, la primera había sufrido de la edición de varios de sus segmentos y contaba con un doblaje distinto, donde Goku era Zero y Krillin, Cachito; esto significo un inicio desastroso para la obra de Toriyama, no obstante, por razones desconocidas, se decidió retransmitir Dragon Ball, pero con un mínimo de cortes, con los nombres originales en su mayoría (se cambió el nombre de ChiChi por el de Milk, pues, digámoslo, representaba un albur automático para el mexicano) y con el gran trabajo de voz que perdura hasta la fecha.


El éxito local de Dragon Ball significó la adaptación de Dragon Ball Z, que es la parte más conocida de la historia, la creación de Dragon Ball GT y su regreso con un par de películas y la actual Dragon Ball Super; por lo que parece que tenemos Goku para rato.

The X-Files On FOX.

The New York City February 6th, 2016 (Forbes) The new X-Files miniseries starts on 24 January on Fox in the US, For those of us wondering whether or not the revival of The X-Files on Fox would warrant the kind of buzz that translates into solid ratings, that question has been decisively answered after consecutive airings of the first two episodes on Sunday and Monday night, respectively.

The ratings for the Sunday night premiere undoubtedly got a boost from the NFC Championship game on Fox, which it followed. But there’s no denying that the excitement for the revival was a big factor to the massive numbers the premiere garnered: a whopping 16.2 million viewers with a 6.1 rating. In the age of streaming services and DVR, that is an impressive number.

Positioning itself as the lead-out show after an NFL playoff game is a tactic that’s worked to the X-Files‘ advantage in the past. In 1997, the fourth season’s “Leonard Betts” episode followed Super Bowl XXXI; it became the series’ highest-rated episode of all time with a staggering 29.1 million viewers. That season also happened to have the highest-rated finale in all of its seasons by a wide margin at 19.85 million viewers.

Even though the second episode had a sharp, and understandable, drop in viewership in its regular time slot on Monday, it still dominated its time slot at 9.2 million viewers and a 3.2 rating ahead of such already established shows as  Supergirl, Scorpion and NCIS: LA, and the pilot of the comic book series Lucifer.

Last night’s ratings for The X-Files also beat out those of every episode of its time slot predecessor, Gotham, save for the comic book series’ highly anticipated debut. And even then, the X-Files‘ viewership was higher and ratings just one-tenth of a point lower.

The strong ratings make one wonder if this might not be a one-and-done season, after all. Though Chris Carter and the team behind the revival have described it as a miniseries, it sure doesn’t feel like it. The storyline they’ve set up seems far too ambitious to wrap up in four more episodes, and, if there’s anything to be learned from television history, it’s that if a show has ratings, execs will find a way to make multiple seasons of it. Just look at True Detective on HBO, a show that was originally meant to be a single season arc miniseries. Whether or not it was a good idea, it got a second season due to strong ratings and pop culture buzz.

Right now, The X-Files feels less like True Detective, designed to be a true standalone event, and more like Marvel’s Agent Carter on ABC, originally intended to be a one-shot filler for the midseason hiatus of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but designed for longevity if it happened to do well in ratings. The story arc of the X-Files revival so far is following that same pattern: Concise enough to be wrapped up in one season, but open-ended enough so that there’s still lots of story left to tell if the situation should warrant it. And so far, with the ratings being what they are, it absolutely warrants it.

Reforma Politica del DF.

México, DF. a 01 de Febrero de 2016 (Forbes México). La reforma política para el Distrito Federal, que se aprobó este martes en la Cámara de Senadores, implica la creación de una Constitución política y un congreso local, estos cambios se realizaron para dar una mayor autonomía a la Ciudad de México.

La iniciativa aún deberá ser discutida y aprobada en el pleno de la Cámara de Diputados.  En el caso de que los diputados realicen cambios a la reforma enviada por el Senado, los legisladores de la Cámara Alta tendrán que discutir y aprobar las modificaciones. La discusión de la reforma se dio en el marco de los lineamientos de un acuerdo político asumido por los coordinadores parlamentarios. En este punto del proceso, el  mayor riesgo es que la reforma se quedé paralizada en la Cámara de Diputados y no sea aprobada en la recta final del periodo ordinario de sesiones que termina el 30 de abril.

La reforma política del Distrito Federal era uno los principales temas pendientes de la agenda legislativa del Congreso de la Unión desde hace varios años. Debido a su relevancia, la Cámara de Senadores realizó 12 foros y 2 audiencias. El primer foro se realizó en diciembre de 2012, mientras que el último fue en junio de 2014. Durante los foros, los legisladores recibieron opiniones sobre las distintas iniciativas presentadas por parte de los grupos parlamentarios de las principales fuerzas políticas del país.

No obstante, fue hasta noviembre de 2013 cuando se presentó formalmente la primera Iniciativa en materia de reforma política para el Distrito Federal, entregada por el Partido de la Revolución Democrática. Tuvo que pasar casi un año y medio para que el pleno de la Cámara de Senadores aprobara con 88 votos a favor, 27 en contra y una abstención la reforma política del Distrito Federal. Entre los principales cambios que tendrá el Distrito Federal se encuentran en la creación de una Constitución Política antes del 31 de enero de 2017 y la eliminación de la figura jurídica de las delegaciones políticas.
